Where is Mic Toggle?

Mic Toggle is a menu bar utility. Click its microphone icon in the macOS menu bar to open the controls. It intentionally does not show a Dock icon or a traditional main window.

Keyboard shortcut

The default shortcut is Shift–Command–M. You can change it from the Mic Toggle panel.

Open at login

Use “Open at Login” in the app panel. macOS may ask you to approve the Login Item in System Settings. If you previously declined, open System Settings → General → Login Items and allow Mic Toggle.

The microphone does not mute

Make sure the intended microphone is selected as the default input device in System Settings → Sound → Input. Some audio devices do not expose a hardware mute control; Mic Toggle then uses the device’s input levels as a fallback.

Mic Toggle does not record audio, collect data, use analytics, or communicate over the network. Read the full Privacy Policy.
